This is a fabulous hand paint domed Swedish Immigrant Trunk with iron work hand painted 1780. The folk art trunk appears to be crafted from solid wood and is hand painted with a wonderful floral design as well as being written, “M. Gold" and "Ao 1780". The trunk shows wrought blacksmith formed iron hardware and bands with an original old skeleton key mechanism (no key) and forged iron handles. The trunk has a domed top and is well kept in good condition. The domed truck top is painted with floral patterns and opens on forged iron hinges to a large storage area with a classic candle box in the top right corner. The trunk likely dates to the late-1700’s to early/mid-1800’s, commonly referred to as an Immigrant Trunk, Wedding Trunk, Marriage Trunk, Coffer Trunk, camel back trunk, dome top trunk, and farmhouse trunk. The piece shows a solid wood construction made from heavy thick boards, likely oak or pine. It shows good condition overall with wear present from its age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. It measures 26 7/8" L x 56 1/2" W x 27 1/2" H.
