The lot features a circa 1800’s Lakota Oglala Sioux of South Dakota war arrow noted by a former collector to have been collected from private property near the Battle of the Little Bighorn / Custer Last Stand Battlefield in Montana. The piece shows a thin wooden haft, stripped and carved showing an iron point arrowhead, hand-cut and forged from sheet iron, likely from a Fort Blacksmith traded in batches to the Native Americans. The piece shows sinew sewing, old paint remnants and Turkey feather fletching. The arrow was said to have been in a single family collection for many generations and a written history of being collected form private land adjacent to the Battle of the Little Bighorn / Custer’s Last Stand location in Montana was lost to history. Measures overall 30-inches in length.
