For your consideration is an antique Black Forest style cabinet card photo album, with a front cover celluloid depicting a European Fallow deer buck and two does in a grassy meadow. The Black Forest region of Switzerland is the origin of the wood carving style that bears its name. Elaborate, intricate, magnificent, from the Victorian era, mid to late 1800s. The carved cover finely features in an openwork photo medallion of a standing large deer buck displaying very impressive antlers with high details while two does are close by. They are just gorgeous! Around the medallion, the decor displays a wood bark design. The cover has a metal tuck lock base plate, other hardware is missing. The edge of each page is meticulously gilded, one of a kind and remain a fabulous souvenir book to cherish.
The cover is in good condition with a burnished patina on the tuck base plate. The velvet spine and back cover are worn most likely from age. The pages have tears throughout again most likely from years of inserting and removing photographs, foxing is evident on the pages. 13.5"H x 10"W x 3"D
