Offered in this lot is a Rare First Edition of "Adventures and Discoveries of Dr. Livingstone and the Herald-Stanley Expedition", 1872, Hubbard Bros. publishers. "Adventures and Discoveries of Dr. David Livingstone and the Herald-Stanley Expedition" was a book published by Hubbard Brothers detailing the African explorations of Dr. David Livingstone and H.M. Stanley. The book documented their travels, discoveries, and perils, making it a valuable resource for collectors and those interested in African exploration. Dr. David Livingstone was a Scottish missionary known for his efforts to bring Christianity, commerce, and "civilization" to Africa. He was also known as an explorer who made significant contributions to the understanding of Africa, including being the first European to see Victoria Falls and name it after Queen Victoria and being the first European to cross the width of the African continent. He was also known for his staunch abolitionist stance and campaigning against the slave trade. H.M. Stanley was a Welsh journalist and explorer known for his famous encounter with Dr. Livingstone when Livingstone was presumed lost. The brown cloth bound stamped gold gilt hardcover is in fair overall condition, scuffing to edges, loose spine. Intact pages exhibit age tanning and foxing throughout. Measures 5"W x 7.875"L x 1.5"D, weight is 1lb, 8oz.
