Featured in this lot are Vintage Victorian Advertising Trade Cards Baseball Comic Series, "Hold your Base!", (2), circa 1880s. Titled "Blueish Green" trade cards by noted trade card collector Frank Keetz, these cards featured humourous baseball scenes on thinner card stock having a blueish green tint. Many trade cards were used by numerous companies and that is the case with this set. That is in part because it was easier to use artwork that was already produced rather than going through the trouble of creating your own. For that reason, the fronts of the card can be blank with only the picture/caption or include an advertisement for different companies. These two cards feature the same cartoonish caricature holding a baseball cap in the left hand while separate advertising for Victorian Era New Hampshire businesses: "Lothrops, Farnham & CO. The Clothiers Rochester And Dover" and "Robinson Bros. Smoke "CLIMAX" the BEST 5 CENT CIGAR in the Market 796 ELM STREET Manchester, N. H." Each card also has "313" printed on the lower right corner. The cards are in good overall condition, slight age tanning noted, each card is in a clear protective sleeve. Approximate measurements 3"W x 5"L, sleeves are 4"W x 5.25"L and 3.5"W x 6.25"L
