For your consideration is this 1887 copy of “Battlefield and Prison Pen: In Defense of the Union or, Through Shot and Shell and Prison Pen” by John Urban. This is a graphic recital of personal experiences throughout the entire Civil War—in which the author actually engaged in twenty-five battles and skirmishes, was captured three times, and was incarcerated in Andersonville, Libby, Millen, and other southern prisons. It is a vivid and truthful description of the life of a union volunteer in all different phases—on the battlefield, in the prison den, at the picket line, and in the camp and bivouac. The author fought for the Union during the Civil War and was captured by Rebel forces on three occasions and was kept prisoner in Confederate prisons, including Libby, Pemberton, Andersonville, Savannah, and others. The book has numerous illustrations and a wonderful gilt decorated cover. The condition of this book is good, with wear consistent with age and some browning to the pages. The measurements of this book are 8" x 6".
