In this lot is a wonderful 1888 copy of "Reminiscences of Abraham Lincoln". Abraham Lincoln said, “Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.” Abraham Lincoln led the United States through its Civil War—its bloodiest war and its greatest moral, constitutional and political crisis. In doing so, he preserved the Union, abolished slavery, strengthened the federal government, and modernized the economy. “Reminiscences of Abraham Lincoln” was compiled from a wonderful collection of first-hand accounts and memories of Abraham Lincoln, concerning his personal traits and private utterances, as gathered from the most distinguished characters of the era who personally knew him: Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, Gen. Benjamin F. Butler, Frederick Douglas, Benjamin Perley Poore, and Hon. Schuyler Colfax. The book is bound in green linen with gold embossing on the cover and spine. This book beautifully captures the spirit of Lincoln and is wonderfully illustrated with 28 engravings. The book measures 9 1/4" X 6 1/4" X 2 1/2".
