Featured in this lot is this 1889 first edition copy of Cruising in the Cascades and Other Hunting Adventures, first edition from 1889. This book is 339 pages and includes frontis portrait, 30 full page illustrations, 77 illustrations total, decorated initial letters, original green cloth, gilt spine and cover titles and pictorial decorations with floral decorated end papers. A quarter of the book is devoted to the author's description of hinting in the Harrison Lake area. It also describes Lillooet Indians; hunting and fishing in British Columbia, Oregon, Washington, and Texas by American writer and sportsman, George Oliver Shields (1846-1925). The articles on elk, bear, and antelope hunting were first published in Harper's Magazine; those on buffalo hunting and trout fishing in the Outing Magazine. This is a very attractive with gilt- embossed elk on the front cover. Near Fine condition, showing the binding is tight and square, hinges are strong, and the text is bright and crisp, with minimal shelf wear and no fading. The condition of this of this book are is good with slight wear to the cover and the spine of the book but in good overall condition. The measurements of this book are 8 3/4" x 6 1/4".
