Featured in this lot is this 1889 illustrated copy of “Sword and Pen or Ventures and Adventures of Willard Glazier, (The Soldier-Author,) in War and Literature: Comprising Incidents and Reminiscences of His Childhood”. This book was published by P.W. Ziegler & Company, Publishers, Philadelphia, 1883 and was originally sold only by subscription. It has a brown cloth binding with stamped, black bands to the front cover. There are stamped, gilt lettering and designs to front cover and spine. The front page reads, “comprising incidents and reminiscences of his childhood; his chequered life as a student and teacher; and his remarkable career as a soldier and author; embracing also the story of his unprecedented journey from ocean to ocean on horseback; and an account of his discovery of the true source of the Mississippi River, and canoe voyage thence to the Gulf of Mexico.” The condition of this book is good, with slight wear to the cover of the book and the spine and browning to the pages consistent with the age of the book. The measurements of this book are 7 5/8" x 5 ½”.
