For your consideration is this 1890-1900s Burk & McFetridge horse blanket advertisement. Burk & McFetridge was a steam powered printing, lithography and publishing establishment operated by Pennsylvania natives, William M. Burk (1857-1905) and John R. McFetridge (1844-1903) from 1877 to 1900. The company produced lithographic trade cards, advertisements, book illustrations, pamphlets, calendars and other printing related material in Philadelphia. The company was then under fire after an employee caused an investigation by creditors as a result of the embezzlement of funds from the company. Shortly after, John R. McFetridge withdrew from the firm and filled to start a new printing and publishing firm under the name of John R. McFetridge & Sons. McFetridge died shortly after in New Jersey in 1903. His firm remained open until around 1945. The advertisement shows a yellow background with a horse rearing onto his hind legs wearing the newly made and advertised 5/A Bias Girth Blanket. To the left of the horse it reads, "The New Invention. 5/A Bias Girth Blankets. All Qualities." in black lettering. On the right side it reads, "-Patented-". On the very bottom left hand corner it reads in small black lettering, " Burk & McFetridge Co. Lith. Phila.". The top and bottom of the advertisement are lined with a thin metal brace and the very top shows a metal loop for hanging. The advertisement is set on a large foam board and sealed in plastic. The advertisement measures 23" L x 16" W.
