18th C. Brown Bess Flintlock Rawhide Wrapped Rifle

This is a scarce 1777 Pattern 2nd Model Brown Bess British Army muzzle-loading smoothbore flintlock musket which has been covered in rawhide parfleche and brass tacking from a Northern Plains Native American Indian. The firearm shows an exposed hammer flint lock receiver mechanism which is finely stamped with an elaborate British Crown having “GR” below and above that shows a crown “W” mark and to the right a feather or arrow hallmark. On the left side of the receiver just below the rawhide is a marking which cannot be discerned, likely TOWER but not confirmed. The rifle or musket has been wrapped in rawhide parfleche which is sinew rawhide lacing sewn and covered in solid brass and brass covered metal tacks. An old ramrod is present. The large hammer cocks back but does not hold. There is the original brass butt plate in place and the rifle has nice original dark patina, overall being well kept. Adorned by a Northern Plains Warrior at some point. Measures overall 41.5 inches long with the barrel being 25.5 inches long by 1 inch in diameter at the end. The brass trigger guard has a large brass or copper ring, likely for a rifle sling. Antique Firearms does NOT require an FFL.
