Featured in this lot we have a British engraved flintlock blunderbuss with spring bayonet. This fine engraved blunderbuss originates from the late 18th century with its popularity hitting its peak between 1770 and 1800. The barrel displays four British proof marks with the left side displaying the royal cypher Crown over G R, for King George II, and the Birmingham proof of a Crown over Crossed Scepters. The right side of the barrel displays the London Crown over P and Crown over V proofs. The proof marks date the blunderbuss to the late 1700's. This blunderbuss displays a rare steel barrel with a trigger released bayonet attached to the underside of the barrel rather than the standard top of the barrel. The lockplate, trigger guard and other metal accents display fine tooled engravings with the lock plate and flintlock system showing fine craftsmanship and hammer locking system found on higher quality pieces. The wood stock shows a wonderful smooth carved design with a carved floral design across the top by the barrel and carved geometric grip pattern with a "LS" stamped lettering below the tang and thin ram rod below the barrel. This blunderbuss shows wonderful condition for its age showing a warm patina and some expected wear. The piece weighs 4lbs 2oz. This firearm qualifies as an Antique, and does not require FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
