Featured in this lot is this beautiful, French Provincial longcase morbier clock constructed from Fruitwood from the 18th Century. This beautifully constructed French provincial longcase clock features a warm fruitwood case with a bonnet top and comtoise clock movement. The case has traditional Louis XV / Provincial elements, including delicately scalloped edges, cabriole-style legs, and an arched bonnet top. Behind a glass door, the clock face displays a hand-painted enamel dial with large Roman numerals and delicate brass hands. An wonderful gilt brass mount above the dial features cherubs, a brilliant sunburst face, and clasped hands. The original bell strike movement remains intact. The case rests on a smaller base with short scrolling feet joined by a scalloped apron. The clock can be taken apart into three sections, bonnet top, case and bottom base. Weights and pendulum fit nicely inside the case. The bell chimes on the hour when the weights are connected to the ropes but no other functionality tests have been performed. The clock shows good condition overall with slight wear present and a warm patina from its age. The front of the glass door on the bonnet top is cracked near the top but is still structurally sound. No major signs of damage noted. It measures 13" L x 21" W x 111 1/2" (9.3 ft) H and weighs 134 pounds.
