For your consideration is a Rare Late 18th Century French Provincial Louis XV Walnut Serpentine Bombe Shaped Commode, circa 1760 to 1770. The eighteenth century is considered the Golden age of French furniture. It was during this time that the most refined and beautiful Royal furniture in a Rococo style was made in the busy Paris workshops of Europe's elite cabinet makers. Exquisitely hand-carved with garlands, acanthus leaves and vines, this commode has a center shaped apron with pierced cartouche, two full drawers with ornate Brass drawer pulls and Brass Escutcheons, Bombe sides with rectangular and oval panels, iconic curvy Louis XV acanthus leaves scrolled cabriole legs with pegs. The curved forms, lightness, grace, comfort and asymmetry of this period replaced the more formal, boxlike and massive furniture of the Louis XIV style. Excellent quality with superb craftsmanship, the commode is in wonderfully preserved condition, insect damage to backboards, some splits and minor fading to two-board top, nicely finished. Measures 48"W x 24.25"D x 35.25"H and weighs 113 pounds.
