For your consideration are these two early Venetian skunk bead necklaces. These beads were highly valued in trade with Native American Indians. The first necklace consists of trade beads made of black glass with white, pink, and light blue spots, also referred to as skunk beads. These beads are in an oblong, round, and disk shape and measure 1/4" to 3/4". Also on the necklace are small skunk eye and black spacer beads that measure 1/8". There are 33 larger beads and 32 of the small spacer beads. The second necklace is made of 5/8" round beads with 1/8" spacer beads; both of these beads are skunk eye. There are 28 of the larger beads and 28 of the smaller beads. The necklaces are strung with very sturdy string and show very good quality and condition. They measure approximately 16" strung. Provenance: letter of appraisal from Out-West Designs, L. W. Dinneen, dated May 3, 1999, with a value of $900 (from when these two necklaces were one before it was split).
