This is an original circa 1905-1910 Yawman & Erbe MFG. Co. Rochester, N.Y. quarter sawn oak index card catalog file cabinet with original makers plate and hardware. Henry A. Yawman and John C. Erbe established the Yawman and Erbe Manufacturing Co. in Rochester, New York, in 1880. The business soon rose to the top of the market by specializing in the production of premium file cabinets, index cards, and other office equipment. The business was well known for its creative designs and excellent craftsmanship, which contributed to its growth as a dependable and reputable manufacturer. Throughout the first half of the 20th century, Yawman and Erbe Manufacturing Co. kept growing and expanding, and by the 1950s, it was among the biggest producers of office equipment worldwide. The company was acquired by the Gulton Industries in 1959, which continued to produce products under the Yawman and Erbe brand name until the late 1970s. The cabinet shows a quarter sawn oak construction with fine dovetailed joinery and is marked on the front, "YAWMAN & ERBE M'F'G. CO. ROCHESTER, N. Y." The piece shows two pull out drawers with hardwware and fuctions well. The bottom shows the original stecil painted manufacture number of "253A 7I0GI-I" This is well kept and displays well. Measures overall 6.5-inches by 13-inches by 5-inches.
