Offered in this lot is a c. mid 1900's printing and tinting of the 1908 photograph "Atsina Warriors" by Edward Curtis. This beautiful image depicts a group of ten Atsina warriors on horseback. The warriors are all in beaded war shirts, beaded blankets, or other regalia. Some carry feathered staffs, and one wears a full eagle-feathered war bonnet. The Atsina are a tribe located in north central Montana. Edward S. Curtis (1868-1952), between 1896 and 1930, photographed over 80 Indian tribes in North America and Alaska. Curtis published "The North American Indian", a series of 20 volumes documenting disappearing Indian lifestyles and customs. In 1930, the original copper photogravure plates become the property of Curtis' creditors, the printing companies and publishers he used—that is when many of these prints were made and sold. By 1981, "The Curtis Collection" owned the entire collection. This print is matted and professionally framed with a wood frame. The art shown measures 8 3/4" x 5 3/4" and the frame measures 16" x 13". This item is in good condition and features no obvious signs of damage.
