For your consideration in this lot is a 1912 First Edition XI Volume set of "The Makers Of Canada". This is an epic account of the history of early Canada. The Makers of Canada, a series of books designed to present a history of Canada through a study of its major figures. Each volume is a fascinating read, filled with many period plates, pictures, maps etc. The history of Canada was a considerable struggle, and these books provide a great insight. These are antique books, dated 1912 - the same year the Titanic sank! The original series contained 20 volumes which appeared between 1903 and 1908; an index volume was added in 1911 and a 21st volume in 1916. The publisher was George M. Morang of Toronto, and the editors were poet Duncan Campbell Scott and Professor O. Pelham Edgar of Victoria College; a third advisory editor, William Dawson LeSueur, was added later. The series sold extremely well and Morang brought out 2 less expensive 11-volume editions in 1910. This is a 1912 first edition printing of one of the smaller editions. Each book contains what was previously two different volumes. The books are bound in brown leather with stamped engraving on the cover boards and gold gilt on the spines. Intact gold gilt top edge deckled pages exhibit age tanning, no other obvious marring noted. The condition of the books is good overall with sun-fading to the spines making them a soft tan. The books measure 6.25"W x 8.25"L x 1.75"D
