Featured in this lot is a First Edition of “Steep Trails” by John Muir, 1918, Houghton Mifflin publisher, Boston and NY. This is a posthumous collection of John Muir's essays and letters, compiled by William Frederic Bade, chronicling his nearly 30 years of exploration through the American West's stunning landscapes (California, Utah, Oregon, Grand Canyon) and advocating for nature's preservation with his characteristic charm, geological insight, and deep reverence for wilderness. It's a lesser-known gem offering joyous, funny, and exalted views into Muir's personal connection with the wild, contrasting natural beauty with human imposition. John Muir (1838-1914) was a Scottish-American naturalist author, environmental philosopher, botanist, zoologist, and glaciologist, who campaigned extensively for the preservation of America's wilderness lands. He co-founded the Sierra Club and is often referred to as the "Father of the National Parks". The sage green cloth bound illustrated hardcover is in good overall condition, front cover litho exhibits slight tears, cover exhibits scuffing and slight soiling. Intact pages exhibit gold gilt top edge, deckled fore and bottom edges, and exhibit age tanning throughout. Measures 5.5"W x 8.25L x 1.375"D, weight is 1lb 8oz.*
