For your consideration in this lot is a 1920's-40's hand held school crossing sign from Montana. The sign is made of thick composit board in a 15 1/2" x 15 1/2" diamond shape, with the bottom point cut off for the handle to fit. The handle is 7" x 1" x 1" and held in place with two screws. The one side is painted yellow with “SLOW” in black 5" letters. The reverse side is painted white with a red square and white 5" “STOP” letters. The octagonal shape for stop signs did not become standard till 1966. This sign is in poor condition, showing wear on its edges, but is a great time period display piece.
