Featured is "The Yellowstone National Park" by Hiram Chittenden, 1920. The book features a comprehensive description of Yellowstone with its wildlife and vegetation. It contains many maps and illustrations. Hiram Martin Chittenden, Brigadier-General US Army (ret.), after completing his education, his tours of duty were mainly in the West, including two terms of service in Yellowstone Park. As a historian he was noted for his work on the American West, especially the fur trade. Historian Gordon B. Dodds stated, "His works on the Yellowstone, the fur trade, and on Missouri River steamboating were long recognized as definitive....His style was formal, clear, and undramatic. His works contain a mass of detail. He was typical of the Progressive era of American history in his strong belief in progress..." The book has a black cover with gilt gold lettering on the cover and along the spine. The condition of this book is good with very little wear to the outside cover of the book, the pages are in amazingly good condition for its age and no foxing noted to the pages, measurements are 8"L x 5.2"W x 1.5"D.
