For your consideration is a collection of 1920s-1960s Vintage Western United States Highway / Travel Ephemera. The dream of owning a car would become reality for most American families during the period 1910 to 1940. The advent and popularity of the automobile encouraged tourists to explore the remote landscapes of the Mountain West region. The federal government's boom in road construction followed throughout the decade of the 1920s and the creation of a new national highway system made accessing the West that much easier. In 1924, Rand McNally’s Auto Chum appears, the first edition of what becomes the Rand McNally Road Atlas. While these guide books were essential, they were soon joined by something new: the oil company paper road map. Within a decade, most major oil companies had some form of promotional map program. This travel ephemera collection includes, 1922 "Rand McNally official Auto Trails Map Montana, Eastern Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, Arizone, New Mexico, District 13-17", 1931 "Clason's United States Maps Green Guide Series", early-1950s "Carter Oil Road Map with Pictorial Guide", early-1950s "Standard Oil Company Highway Map Minnesota", 1930s "Utah in word and picture by the Conoco Travel Bureau". Each of theses nine (9) pieces is nicely preserved condition, age tanning noted. Largest piece measures 4"W x 10" folded, smallest is 4"W x 6"L. Combined weight is 8oz.
