For your consideration is this 1927 1st Edition of, "The War Chief" by Edgar Rice Burroughs, copy-righted by the author and published by Grosset & Dunlap. Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875-1950) was an American author best known for his prolific output in the adventure, science fiction, and fantasy genres, and especially for creating the characters Tarzan and John Carter. "The War Chief" is a realistic historical novel about life and death on an Apache reservation during the final years of the Apache wars until the death of Cochise and the surrender of Geronimo is based on Burroughs' deep appreciation of the Apaches gained when he was enlisted with the U.S. 7th Cavalry in the Arizona Territory during the campaign of 1896–97. The red clothbound hardcover with black lettering and embossed profile image of an Apache is in good overall condition, scuffing noted to cover edges. The intact pages exhibit age tanning, no other obvious marring noted. The book measures 5" W x 7.5"L x 1.25" D.
