Featured in this lot is this metal Knoxit sign circa 1930-40s. In the early to mid-20th century, a drug called Knoxit was used to treat gonorrhea and gleet, a form of urethritis. It was produced by Allen & Hanburys, a British pharmaceutical business that was established in 1715 and later joined GlaxoSmithKline. Although its precise makeup is unknown, Knoxit was marketed as both a liquid and a pill. However, it was thought to have included a variety of components, such as antiseptics and astringents, which were thought to help ease the signs of gonorrhea and gleet.
The sign reads, "Knoxit In Five Days" at the top of the sign in blue lettering. The sign shows a blue and red color scheme throughout. This sign would have been hung in Chatfield Drug Store. The sign shows good readable condition with some chipping to paint and wear from use and its vintage age. The sign measures 9 11/16" L x 6 5/8" W.
