For your consideration is this 1930-50s hand carved wood and lead filled fishing decoy mimicking a dragonfly. Fish spearing decoys were primarily used when ice fishing with spears, but were also used in normal fishing to attract fish to already placed baited lines. This decoy shows a wood construction for the body and and metal constructed wings. It shows different shades of blue throughout the piece, an all black bottom and some red on the tail. There are metal strands extruding from the bottom and the head mimicking legs and antennas. There is a small metal loop near the base of the head for attaching fishing line. The two eyes on the front are made from metal studs. The piece shows good condition overall with wear from its use and age but is still in good working and display condition. The dragonfly measures 7" L x 6 5/8" W x 1 1/2" H.
