For your consideration is this unique piece of Montana Americana: a state fair trophy from 1930. This electroplate silver trophy sits on a hollow black base. The top of the trophy is decorated with an elegant laurel motif framed in a classic Greek border design. The front of the trophy is engraved, "Trask Sheep Co./ Ballentine, Mont./ Best Rambouillet Ewe Lamb/ Midland Empire Fair/ 1930.". The back of the trophy reads, "Won By Alfred Jenni/ 1930". The Trask Sheep Co., specialising in Rambouillet sheep, was owned by M.F. Trask of Ballentine, MT., which is about 9 miles northeast of Billings on Interstate 94. The Midland Empire Fair began in 1916 in Billings. It was the predecessor of the MontanaFair. The Midland Empire Fair brougt together communities from all over Montana and Northern Wyoming. The Midland Empire Fair boasted the finest livestock in the region; by 1930, Montana ranchers had gained a reputation for specialising in purebred livestock, such as the Rambouillet sheep. This trophy is in wonderful vintage condition. It has no dents and the engravings are easy to see and read. The trophy measures 11.25" tall x 7.25" wide.
