Presented in this lot is an Empire 1930s Quarter Sawn Tiger Oak Extension Round Pedestal Dining Table. Empire style furniture features a massive scale, dark and heavy woods like mahogany, and a strict adherence to classical Roman and Greek designs with strong geometric lines and symmetry. Originating in France, it was introduced during the First French Empire period under Napoleaon's rule. t gained its greatest popularity in the U.S. after 1820 and is considered the second, more robust phase of the Neoclassical style. This Americanized interpretation of the Empire style continued in popularity in conservative regions outside the major metropolitan centers well past the mid-nineteenth century. The table features a four leg stand off the centre pedestal. The polished round top shows off the beautiful Tiger Oak grain. Tiger Oak comes from a method of sawing logs into four quarters at a radial angle, from the outside to the inside. The cuttings show-off an amazing straight grain pattern where the growth rings intersect the face of the board at a 45 - 90 degree angle.
