For your consideration is this 1930s Seederer - Kohlbusch 3-legged scientific balance beam scale. Seederer-Kohlbusch (SeKo) was a scientific balance company established, originally, in 1859 by German immigrant C. Herman Kohlbusch as the Herman Kohlbusch Balance Company. Around 1925, the company was bought out by Jacob E. Seederer, another local balance maker. SeKo was based in North Jersey and New York City. It specialized in analytical balances, such as this one, that were relatively portable and encased in wood. The scale features a balance beam system and 4 knobs on the outside to control certain mechanics on the inside of the scale. The box has an open back and a sliding front panel for easy opening and access. On the bottom the scale has three legs, with two being able to adjust their height. The front sliding panel has a small metal oval tag that reads, "The Emil Greiner Co. New York, N. Y. U.S.A.". The right side of the wooden case features text reading, "3J3044" and "Made In US". On the inside of the case on the scale there is a white tag that reads, "Seeder-Kohlbusch, Inc. Englewood, N. J. U.S.A., SeKo since 1859". The scale comes with additional parts and weights. The scale appears to be in working condition but has not been tested for functionality. Overall the scale shows good condition with no signs of obvious damage. The wood case shows wear and scuff marks from its vintage age and years of use. The entire scale measures 17" length, 10" width and 17 3/4" in height.
