For your consideration is an extremely rare Original 1938 RKO Radio Pictures, Inc. Signed License Agreement for the Broadway Theatre in Butte, Montana to feature the 1937 original release of Walt Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Based on the Brothers Grimm 1812 fairytale, it was the first full-length traditionally animated feature film and the first Disney animated feature film. Produced by Walt Disney Productions and released by RKO Radio Pictures, one of the "Big Five" major film studios of Hollywood's Golden Age. The American Film Institute has ranked it among the 100 greatest American films, and also named the film as the greatest American animated film of all time in 2008. This license agreement for the "1937 - 1938 Feature Product" specifies the number of consecutive days aired, Sat. to Fri., the guaranteed license fee, admission prices for matinee and evening showings - presumably 30 cents and 15 cents respectively for adults and children. A "second Run Butte" - To be played where and when as available" is mentioned as well as "exhibitor agrees to buy $25.00 accessories from RKO Radio". License agreement is signed by, John Gavan, a representative of Broadway Amusement Co which operated the Broadway Theatre in Butte, Montana, and a salesman from RKO Radio Pictures, Inc; last name appears to be Landstrom. Signed April 19, 1938. This license agreement is the "duplicate exhibitor's application' page 2. Page 1 is located on the reverse and consists of contract language in twenty-three sections of contractual terms and obligations.
This is an amazing piece of film industry memorabilia, ephemera that is both unique and rare. It is in extremely fine condition for its age, minimal age tanning noted, no foxing noted. License agreement evidently was torn out of a receipt type book owning to the uniformly placed cutouts noted at the top of the page. Measures 12"W x 19"L
