Featured in this lot is this framed print done by Montana artist Adelaide Hiebel titled "Hold Everything!" circa 1940s. Born in Red Lodge, Montana, on February 10, 1899, Adelaide Hiebel was a famous American artist. She was born in a family of artists and was the daughter of German immigrants. Hiebel began to show interest in art at a young age and went to the Art Institute of Chicago in the 1920s. After graduating from the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco, she went on to work as an illustrator and commercial artist. Hiebel is best known for her landscapes and portraits, many of which included images from the American West. She was particularly interested in capturing Montana's natural beauty and ruggedness of the terrain. Hiebel's artwork was displayed in galleries all over the country, and she belonged to a number of esteemed art associations, such as the California Society of Printmakers and the National Association of Women Painters and Sculptors. Hiebel was a social and political activist in addition to her artistic endeavors. She participated in the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom and supported women's rights. At the age of 81, Hiebel passed away in Santa Rosa, California, on January 25, 1981. This print shows a young girl waiting to walk across the street. She is holding her school books and a basket while a dog bites her dress, holding her back from crossing until the car passes by. The print is signed in the bottom right hand corner reading, "Adelaide Hiebel". The bottom of the print shows the title reading, "Hold Everything!". The print is set behind glass and sits in a gold gilt, art deco frame. The frame shows good condition with areas of wear but is still in good condition. The print shows good condition as well with some crease lines throughout but is still in good display condition. The visible print measures 17 9/16" L x 14" W. The entire piece measures 19 3/4" L x 16 1/4" W.
