Included in this lot is an American LaFrance VL-1 brass fire extinguisher originating from circa 1940 to 1950. The piece shows brass construction and is operated with a brass hand pump. The front of the extinguisher is marked "American LaFrance VL-1 Fire Extinguisher - American LaFrance Corporation Elmira, New York U.S.A.", along with operation instructions, original contents information, and warning labels. These early gas extinguishers were designed to use carbon tetrachloride to put out fires, but were discontinued in the late 50's and early 60's due to health risks. The piece comes with a steel wall mount and shows good condition overall. The extinguisher measures 13 1/4" long with a diameter of approximately 3".
