In this lot is a rare original Stetson hat and box. The box bears the name "Miller & Co. Denver, Colo". The hat band says "Royal De Luce Stetson- This hat is from Miller Stockman Ranchers headquarters Denver Colo" in gold embossment. As a traveling salesman, Phillip Miller was known as one of the first to commercially produce the classic western shirt. He first became close with farmer, ranchers, and rodeo cowboys that he met along the way. He provided them with hats and also with special items they had requested. In doing this, he was able to open his own Denver-based business. There was a mail order catalog that originally operated as Stockman Farmer Supply Company. Throughout time, it grew to be one of the West’s premiere sources for western hat, boots, shirts, and horse tack. Reflecting Miller’s continued success with ranchers, in 1942, the business’ name was changed to Miller Stockman. In 1950, Miller opened his first Miller Stockman western store in Denver, Colorado. About 49 years later, there were 30 stores in 5 western states. This hat is in excellent condition, showing very little wear; the color is Biege Style # 576 size 7.
