For your consideration is this circa. 1945 curve-back chair, made by Old Hickory, Martinsville,IN. As the pioneers moved West in the 1800's, they discovered the durability, usefulness, and abundance of the Hickory tree in the Midwest, particularly in Indiana. It wasn't long before furniture builders started crafting furniture from hickory. It is said that a forbearer of the Old Hickory Chair Company made hickory chairs and rockers for President Andrew Jackson's home, the Hermitage. Once Old Hickory Chair Company incorporated in 1899, they were ready with a full line of products to ship. In 1904 the company shipped dinning room chairs to the Old Faithful Inn in Yellowstone National Park. Those chairs are still in use today at he Inn. This chair features solid wood construction, including hickory legs and back. The chair is very solid and comfortable and has a nice rustic look to it. The chair measures 25 1/2" wide x 20 1/2" deep x 29 3/4" tall.
