For your consideration in this lot is a unique collection consisting of a paper "rodeo" cowboy hat, a woven basket and plate, a knife, and a tin funnel. First in this lot is a paper "Rodeo" cowboy hat. This hat is the last of a dying breed. This hat is made of thick multi-layer paper and has a black ribbon hat band. The hat is in Tom Mix Stetson style and has signatures all over it, as if it was used as a memento of an event or trip. Next in the lot is a woven basket and plate. The basket measures 11 1/2" across and 5 1/2" deep. The basket has a loose weave, but is in sturdy condition. The next item is a plate or low bowl. This plate is done in a coil weave and shows good construction. Across the plate measures 10 3/4" and it is 1 3/4" tall. Next is a carved wood bowl made of one solid piece of wood. The bowl is 9 1/2" across, 2 1/2" deep, and 1/2" thick. The bowl is unvarnished and shows a wonderful design from the wood grain. The next item is a knife with leather sheath and carved handle. The blade of the knife is 4 3/4" long and has "Philippines 1945” stamped on it. Many knives were made in the Philippines at the end of WWII and were sold or given to GIs by locals. It has been said that many of the blades were hand forged from Jeep leaf springs. The sheath is leather. Both the knife and sheath are in good condition for the 75 year plus age. The last item is a tin funnel. The funnel is marked “NPRY” (Northern Pacific Railway Yard). The funnel measures 7 5/8” across and has a 6 ¾” bell leading to a 3 1/4" spout. There is a small d-ring attached at the seam to hang the funnel.
