Featured in this lot is a 1948 U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service sign, printed by the U.S. Government Printing Office and designed by James Hansen. The sign shows a yellow background with the top reading, "Smokey Says-" in blue lettering. It then goes on to explain how to prevent wildfires with examples such as: Crush It, Break It, Drown It, Use It. On the bottom left it reads, "Remember- Only You Can Prevent Forest Fires" while the bottom right shows Smokey the Bear wearing a ranger hat and pointing towards the text. The very bottom of the sign reads, "U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service / U.S. Government Printing Office 1948" in black lettering. The sign shows good condition with no signs of wear or tears present and no fading to the coloring as the sign has been set on cardstock and wrapped in plastic. The sign is signed by the artist in the bottom right hand corner reading, "Hansen". The sign measures 18" L x 12 3/4" W.*
