This is an excellently restored 1949 Studebaker 2R Model 16A truck. The truck has undergone a complete restoration of over $60,000 with receipts included. The truck, serial number R16A-16717 Model 2R16A 131, was originally shipped to Billings, Montana and was to be shipped on March 3rd, 1949 as per the Studebaker National Museum W-706 Truck Production Order Final Assembly Line form included with the truck. The truck is a 1 å_ ton hydraulic tilt-bed truck with original inline-6 cylinder engine No. 4R-6135 and manual transmission. The truck was originally factory delivered to Billings, Montana in 1949 and was later a field find outside Billings, Montana in February of 2008 when a complete restoration began. The entire vehicle has been meticulously restored including but not limited to the rebuilt starter, brakes, steering, radiator, PTO, engine, transmission, hydraulics, new tubes and tires and all new glass and paint. Included in the lot are most of the detailed invoices from Krown Restoration of Wilsall, Montana, Studebaker International, and O‰ÛªConnor Auto Body LLC of Livingston, Montana. The truck underwent a exceptional restoration including an over $10,000 body and paint job. The truck also includes an original 1949 Sherwin-Williams Studebaker Car Production Color sheet, original Studebaker Truck Parts Catalog from the Studebaker-Packard Corp, increasingly rare original 1949 Studebaker 2R Series Trucks Operator‰Ûªs Guide and rare 1949 Studebaker Shop Manual for 2R Series Trucks. Along with the various invoices and ephemera are photographs of the vehicle before restoration. The piece comes with an appraisal by O‰ÛªConner Auto Body LLC from 2009 stating the truck had an appraised value of $50,000. The 2R Series Trucks were introduced in 1949 and designed by Bob Bourke and were thought to be the most integrated styling on a pickup of the time. The vehicle was equipped with the ‰ÛÏPower-Plus‰Û 226-CID L-6 Commander flathead 6-cylinder 1 BBL inline engine accompanied by the manual 4-speed transmission. Very few of these South Bend made 2R16A 131 pickup trucks were manufactured and are becoming increasingly scarce with this example thought to be the finest example ever offered for sale. The current owner has spent over $60,000 in concourse like restorations which is immediately noticeable in the overall fine condition and smooth-running order. The vehicle comes with a clear Montana title and is in good running and driving condition with all features appearing to function. Don‰Ûªt miss the opportunity to bid on and win possibly the finest and more unusual small production Studebaker Model 2R16A Trucks currently available. These trucks are becoming more and more collectible with one example selling at RM Sotheby‰Ûªs Auction in Arizona for $35,750, above the $20,000 estimate (RM Sotheby‰Ûªs also sold another 2R Series Truck for $33,000). This example is truly a one of a kind finely restored classic truck.
