The lot features an inlay vintage, Santo Domingo, Native American Indian eagle thunderbird necklace, dating from the 1950-1970’s. This is considered a Depression Era style. Pieces such as this were made predominately by Santo Domingo artists using old scrap materials, including phonograph records, car battery casings (hard rubber), and red plastic dinnerware. This piece shows a shell heishi, shell, and coral bead necklace strung on cotton thread with a pendant of an eagle thunderbird pendant, which has a black jet back overlaid with a red jasper-like stone, turquoise-like stone, more jet, and likely a white magnesite. The necklace measures 30".
