For your consideration is a pair of 1950 Chippewa Ojibwe Beaded Buckskin Moccasins. The moccasins show a buckskin hide construction with floral decorations of glass trade seed beads and trade cloth thread in colors of periwinkle blue rondelle beads, royal blue, Navy blue, translucent red, and translucent green. European glass-makers mass-produced huge quantities of beads from the 16th century through the 19th century during a period of exploration that extended to the corners of the earth. Most explorers, traders and missionaries carried glass beads with them as gifts or objects of barter to the native populations. European traders learned to identify local tastes in items used in personal adornment, and responded with appropriate choices to enhance their chances of success in their trade and travels. The Ojibwe (also Ojibwa and Ojibway) are an indigenous people in Canada and the United States who are part of a larger cultural group known as the Anishinaabeg. Chippewa and Saulteaux people are also part of the Ojibwe and Anishinaabe ethnic groups. These moccasins are made by the Ojibwe (commonly called Chippewa) from around the Great Lakes. Moccasins are used as an everyday footwear and designed to protect feet from the harsh conditions of nature. These beaded moccasins are well preserved in good overall condition, with very minimal seed bead loss, some stitching is loose. Measurements are 4.5"W x 9.75"L
