Featured in this lot is a vintage, 1950s Irwin Auger drill bit complete set, a Stanley No. 921 10 inch ratchet bit brace hand drill, and a set of Standard Tool Co. drill bits. In 1884 Charles Irwin owned a pharmacy in Martinsville, Ohio. A local blacksmith who was a customer of Mr. Irwin's came up with the idea for a solid center auger bit. He sold the rights to this invention to Mr. Irwin and a year later, after patenting the Auger bit, Charles Irwin, along with four other business partners formed the Irwin Auger Bit Company. The Irwin bit set comes in the original wood box with all 13 original drill bits, the original "How To Select, Use And Care For Bits" small booklet and the original metal "The Irwin Bit" plates. The exterior of the box shows "Irwin" printed in black on the top of the box and a worn of sticker on the left side giving the drill bit measurements. The box features a small hook latch to securely close the box. The box measures 6 1/4" L x 10 1/4" W x 2 1/2" D. The second item in this lot is this Stanley No. 921 10 inch ratchet bit brace hand drill. The Stanley Works was founded by Frederick Trent Stanley in 1843, originally a bolt and door hardware manufacturing company located in New Britain, Connecticut. The Stanley Rule and Level Company was founded in 1857 by Frederick Trent Stanley's cousin, Henry Stanley, also in New Britain. In 1920, this company merged with the Stanley Works, and continued operating as its hand tools division. Stanley Hand Tools is a division of Stanley Black & Decker following the merge with Black & Decker in March 2010. The hand drill features a metal construction with a wood handle in the middle and a wood knob handle at the top for easy, comfortable holding. The hand drill is fully functional and working. The drill measures 14 3/4" L x 6 1/4" W. The third item is a set of 12 Standard Tool Company drill bits. The drill bits come in various sizes and all seem to be undamaged. The largest measures 5 1/4" L and the smallest measures 2 7/8" L.
