The lot features three original Winold Reiss (1886-1953) Blackfeet Montana artwork from the Great Northern Railway Empire Builder large calendar toppers from 1951, 1952 and 1955 showing Blackfeet Indian Brave Many Guns, Blackfeet Indian Brave Middle Rider, and Blackfeet Indian Youth Nobody Has Pity On Me, all from Glacier National Park, Montana. Winold Reiss (1886-1953) was a German-born American artist, he immigrated to the United States in 1913 to follow his passion for Native Americans and by 1920 he went West to spend time on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Montana outside of Glacier National Park, creating more than 250 artworks depicting the people of the Blackfeet. In 1931, and 1934-37, Reiss organized a summer art school, also referred to as an artists' colony near Glacier National Park. The lot features three original Winold Reiss Great Northern calendar topper artworks. The first one from 1951 shows the artwork, "Nobody Has Pity On Me - Blackfeet Indian Youth - Glacier National Park In Montana" and features the full calendar. It reads, "Route Of Great Streamliners Empire Builder Western Star". The second one from 1952 shows "Middle Rider - Young Blackfeet Indian Brave" and reads, "Route Of Great Streamliners Empire Builder Western Star". It features the full calendar from 1952. The third and final calendar shows "Many Guns - Blackfeet Indian Brave" wearing a headdress. It reads the same as the other two calendars but only features the month of December, 1955. The bottom is marked reading, "Great Northern Railway / Daily Between Chicago and Seattle - Portland". The calendars show good to fair condition with slight wear present from their age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. They measure 33 3/8" L x 16 1/8" W and have a collective weight of 8 ounces.
