The book is recognized as a classic in children's literature, and is one of the best-selling books of all time with over 100 million copies sold. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien CBE FRSL (1892-1973) was an English writer and philologist. This edition of Tolkien's the Hobbit bound in green with gold and red foil Norse rune lettering along the spine and cover. The top, bottom and fore edges of the paper feature a lovely green and white marbling. The book includes a number of two color illustrations including two pages showing Thror's map. The green cloth bound illustrated hardcover with stamped gold gilt and red foil Norse rune lettering is in very nice condition, scuffing noted to cover edges. Intact pages are clean, tight spine and the book sleeve features a label with a whimsical treeline and reads as follows: The Hobbit - J.R.R. Tolkien. The condition of this book and sleeve is well preserved with some wear to the sleeve and no obvious signs of damage to the book as a well preserved edition. The overall measurements of this book are 9 3/4" x 7 1/4". The collective weight of this book is 2lb.
