For your consideration is the collector's edition of "The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien, 1966, Houghton Mifflin Company, Boston publisher, in original slipcase. "The Hobbit, or There and Back Again" is a children's fantasy novel by English author J. R. R. Tolkien. It was published in 1937 to wide critical acclaim, being nominated for the Carnegie Medal and awarded a prize from the New York Herald Tribune for best juvenile fiction. The book is recognized as a classic in children's literature, and is one of the best-selling books of all time with over 100 million copies sold. John Ronald Reuel Tolkien CBE FRSL (1892-1973) was an English writer and philologist. This edition of Tolkien's the Hobbit is boxed and bound in green with gold and red foil Norse rune lettering along the spine and cover. The top, bottom and fore edges of the paper feature a lovely green and white marbling. The book includes a number of two color illustrations including two pages showing Thror's map. The green cloth bound illustrated hardcover with stamped gold gilt and red foil Norse rune lettering is in very nice condition, scuffing noted to cover edges. Intact pages are clean, tight spine. Illustrated slipcase exhibits scuffing to edges. Measures 7"W x 9"L x 1.25"D, weight 2lbs.
