For your consideration is this map of the Great Falls Portage of Lewis and Clark in 1805-1806, presented by Portage Route Chapter and created by Robert N. Berqantino in 1984. The Lewis and Clark Expedition used the Great Falls Portage in 1805 to portage around the Missouri River's Great Falls during the expedition's outbound leg. It took 31 days to portage the 18 miles (29 km). The Lewis and Clark Expedition, which took place between 1804 and 1806, was the first significant white English-speaking expansion of the northwest American plains. On June 13, 1805, the party arrived in the Great Falls region after ascending the Missouri River. A team led by Meriwether Lewis scouted the extent of the falls, which at the time consisted of a series of cascades extending beyond what is now the city of Great Falls. The map shows a later version of the town of Great Falls, with Lewis And Clarks portage marked throughout, with their paths going through the town of Great Falls before it was there. The routes are specified as to who took them, either Lewis or Clark, and includes dates and transcripts from their personal writings of their adventures. The top left of the map reads, "The Great Falls Portage of Lewis And Clark, 19805-1806 / Presented by Portage Route Chapter, Lewis And Clark Trail Heritage Foundation Inc. Great Falls, Montana / Created by Robert N. Berqantino". The map shows good condition with no signs of wear or damage present. The map is set on foam board and is plastic wrapped to ensure long lasting quality. The map measures 23" L x 34 7/8" W.
