For your consideration are two Buckeye Blake poster prints from 1989 and 1992. A significant painter who combines traditional and modern Western art styles is Buckeye Blake. In his impression of the magnificent American West, he captures it in a dramatic artistic style that is occasionally displayed in works that resemble posters, with bright, bold colors and an emphasis on the individual's self-expression encouraged by his use of decorative shapes. In 1946, Buckeye Blake was born in California. His early years were spent visiting rodeos where he saw the subjects he loves to paint firsthand. He started painting and selling his work after relocating to Nevada in his early teens. Although his mother was an artist, he was primarily self-taught and studied the works of Charles M. Russell and Maynard Dixon. In Nevada, Buckeye gained popularity and started taking on commission work for Scripps Howard Publishing. In 1977 he moved to Montana with his wife, Tona, and son, Teal, where he continued his career painting and sculpting. The first poster is from 1989 and shows a cowboy riding on a bucking bronco while three men and a woman sit near or on the fence watching the man ride. At the top it reads in red lettering, "Indian Rodeo" and is surrounded by colorful Southwestern designs. The center scene is surrounded by cowboy rope. The bottom left shows a print signature and a signature in pen reading, "Buckeye Blake 89 / Buckeye Blake 92 / To Sonny & Leann All The Best In The West". The bottom center of the print shows the title reading, "Indian Rodeo by Buckeye Blake" in small black lettering. This poster measures 28 1/4" L x 24 1/4" W. The second in this collection was done in 1992 and shows a pen signature in the bottom right hand corner. The poster reads, "Wyoming" at the top in colors of light blue, brown, orange and yellow. Bellow that it shows a man riding a bucking bronco as he holds his cowboy hat in the air with one hand and hangs on to the rope with his other hand. The top of the poster shows a bison head skull while the border around the center shows various imagery of teepees, bows and arrows, rain clouds and more. The bottom of the poster shows a print signature and a signature done in pen reading, "Buckeye Blake 92 / Buckeye Blake 92". This poster measures 29" L x 25" W. The posters show good condition overall with no signs of obvious damage present.*
