The lot features a 19th-century Blackfeet Buffalo Scrotum Rattle from the ex-Bruce VanLandingham Sundog collection. The lot features a Great American Bison Buffalo Scrotum that has been parfleche rawhide Indian tanned finished, sewn with sinew and covered in mineral pigment red paint on one side and yellow ocher on the other, on a carved wood handle with Indian tanned buffalo hide wrappings and filled with pebbles / stones. Provenance: From the renowned Sundog Fine Art Bozeman, Montana collection and collected by Bruce VanLandingham. Bruce VanLandingham was a pillar in the American Indian collecting community and a respected expert. Along with being an avid collector Bruce also was the sole owner of Sundog Fine Art Gallery in Bozeman which was both part museum and gallery. The rattle is well kept with some paint loss, some stiffened hides but no major damages. Measures overall 9-inches long by 2.5-inches wide by 2.5-inches deep.
