This is an unusual and rare collection of contents from a Blackfoot Indian Medicine Bundle dating to the 19th Century. Included in the bundle is as follows: Circa 1843-1861 Royal Spanish Artillery / Artilleryman uniform brass button showing the crown over cross cannons with 10 cannon balls below marked on the back Barcelona, two wads of tobacco, two lead ammunition balls, a 19th Century cobalt faceted Russian trade bead, four small red dyed plume feathers, a fragment of paper with remnants of red ocher, two small bones (possibly foot or hand bones of unknown origin) showing a single strand each of semi-transparent green trade seed cen beads, a strand of Indian tanned hide showing two wound glass padre sky blue and one wound glass cobalt early trade beads / a very early solid brass trade bead and two Elk molars (ivory Elk teeth), and old solid brass uniform or rifle sling clip, an ancient opalized ammonite fossil wrapped in Indian tanned hide with a dark red mineral dye showing a section of beadwork done in red whtie heart seed trade cen beads, an early George Washington Cut Plug bundle wrapping, another strand of Indian tanned hide with red dye and chalk white trade seed beadwork with sinew sewing. a fabric bundle and lastly the woven fiber strand. The bundle was likely added to over many years and is thought to have first originated to the 19th Century with other things such as the cut plug piece being later added by the user / family throughout the years. Unusual collection. Medicine bundle items such as this are scacely brought to the public market and highly collectible with one example being the Northern Plains beaded whistle and medicine bundle old in our company NAAC's January 2021 sale for $9,840 (w/ bp). The previous mentioned bundle also exhibited a bone section, red mineral pigment dyes, trade clothe and small sections of beadwork. The collection is displayed in a black glass top riker case. Provenance: Collected from Harry Thomas over ten years ago and in the private collection from the greater Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. The case measures 12 1/8" by 8 1/8".
