This is an excellent 19th-century Crow Apsaalooke beaded Indian hide rifle scabbard from Montana from an ex-Eastern Montana Museum collection and Wyoming collection. Previously noted as being collected from the Crow Reservation in Montana from a Crow Apsáalooke old family collection. The scabbard is constructed of thick Indian tanned buffalo / bison hide which is capped off on the end with old red stroud woolen trade clothe which is artfully finished with classic geometric beadwork and thick buffalo Indian hide fringes. The beadwork shows classic Crow geometric designs in old glass trade seed beads with colors of chalk white, Cheyenne pink, cobalt, greasy yellow, semi-transparent dark green, semi-transparent dark red, robin-egg blue, greasy green, and greasy light blue. Noted as fitting a early rifles such as the Winchester Model 1866 and Winchester Model 1873 rifle / carbines. Provenance: From an ex-Museum collection from Eastern Montana and a private Wyoming collection of fine beadwork. The hide shows supple soft finish, well taken care of with little to no bead loss and displays well. Well preserved. Measures overall 50-inches long by 28-inches wide.*
