The lot features a fantastic circa 19th-century Crow Apsaalooke beaded Indian Elk Hide musket rifle scabbard from Montana from an ex-Eastern Montana Museum collection and Wyoming collection. Previously noted as being collected from the Crow Reservation in Montana from a Crow Apsáalooke old family collection. The scabbard is constructed from Indian tanned Rocky Mountain Elk hide sewn with sinew and trade thread sewing with early period old glass trade seed beads in a geometric and effigy design with U.S. Guidon Flags. The piece shows beadwork in two sections, the opening and the center that wraps around both sides showing glass trade seed old beads in colors of cobalt, chalk white, greasy semi-transparent white, chalk white, greasy yellow, medium blue, greasy light green, and semi-transparent. The bag shows a unique long design, crafted for a musket rifle and shows Indian tanned elk hide fringes with some nice patina, slight staining and good old color. Provenance: From an ex-Museum collection from Eastern Montana and a private Wyoming collection of fine beadwork. The hide shows some spots that are stiffened but mostly well kept and partially supple / soft with very little bead loss. Measures overall 58-inches long by 18-inches wide, top section without fringes is about 7-inches wide.
