The lot features two glass bottles full of circa 1800 old glass trade beads dug at Fort Berthold by John Kleinschmidt in November 11, 1952 with accompanying letter from the ex-C.M. Russell Museum Great Falls, Montana and John Kleinschmidt / O’Dell collections. The lot features two bottles full of old glass trade beads from the 1800’s including an original hand written letter / note from John Kleinschmidt which reads, “Ceramic beads from Ft. Berthold – Dug in Nov. 11 – 1952 estimate to be 150 years old or more” which would date them to circa 1700’s to 1800’s. Both bottles have the original C.M. Russell Museum tags and the note was found inside the smaller bottle. Provenance: From the John Kleinschmidt collection and O’Dell collection which was on loan to the C.M. Russell Museum from 1987 to 1993 and included in the "The Cowboy West: 100 Years of Photography 1992-1993 exhibit. Catherine A. O'Dell. There are two attached museum tags that each read, "1396-87 O'Dell". Larger bottle measures 5.75-inches tall and 1 3/8-inches in diameter. Smaller bottle is 3.25-inches tall by 1.5-inches at its widest. These were on display at the C.M. Russell museum. A copy of the C.M. Russell Museum paperwork can be available at request.
