This is a fantastic 19th-century Solingent, Germany silver mounted gaucho saddle from noted Argentina saddle maker Gomez of Buenos Aires. The front and back have highly worked embossed repousse raised floral silver saddle plates which are each marked under the leather “P. Herder A. Sn. Solingen” being made by P. Herder of Solingen, Germany. The saddle shows the classic Gaucho pattern documented from South American countries during the 1800’s with cantle and pommel without horn. The skirt is highly tooled and stamped and both sides are stamped: G. Gomez - B. Ce Irigcyen - 143AL189 - B. Aires. The saddle is believed to be made from the Argentina Buenos Aires location of the famous Mexican Gomez firm by Galindo Gomez during the 1800’s. The condition of this Gomez saddle is well preserved with some superficial wear to the leather of the saddle and some slight patina to the silver mounting but otherwise shows a well preserved condition. The measurements of this saddle is 12 1/2" x 10 1/2" x 23" and the seat size is 16 1/2". The collective weight of this saddle is 7lb 8oz. This is a Gaucho saddle or could be referred to as a Vaquero saddle, representing the cowboys of Argentina.
